Johns Hopkins Hospital exchange program
For more than a century, Johns Hopkins has been recognised as a leader in patient care, medical research and teaching and is considered to be one of the world's preeminent health care institutions.
A Biomedical Engineering work experience exchange program between Flinders Medical Centre and John Hopkins Hospital took place in October 2000. Tony Carlisle, a member of the clinical support group, went to Baltimore, Maryland in the United States of America and worked for three months in the Clinical Engineering Department at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
There were approximately 22 staff working in the department which is located in the historic Brady building. There are many multistorey buildings spanning several blocks that make up the Johns Hopkins facility.
One of the projects that commenced while Tony was there was the installation of 400 Marquette Solar 8000 patient monitors beginning with the specialised intensive care areas and their respective step-down wards.

The Clinical Engineering Services department was a very busy place and were made up of a group of professionals who were involved with just about all aspects of clinical equipment support.
The exchange proved very productive and rewarding
for everyone involved and Tony gained great personal and professional
