The project required extensive logistics to plan, select, put together and support this team for the 12 month project. Other project staff remained in Australia to administer the contract. A private company "Flinders Consulting Pty Ltd " was utilised to operate the business of the project.
In addition to regular lectures to Biomedical staff and hands on mentoring in the workshop and field, a range of other duties delivered included formal training sessions to Nursing and Clinical staff in many hospitals, recommending what tools, spare parts and test equipment where necessary, for each BME workshop location.
28 Malaysian BME staff were selected during this period to attend 6 weeks of intensive training in Adelaide at the Flinders Medical Centre, South Australia. Each candidate had a theory assessment and practical assessment. These candidates were targeted to become specialists back in Malaysia with further mentoring.
Many challenges in Asia were encountered and overcome over the duration of the project, and the outcome was a great success for all involved.
